During periods of sustained economic stability and growth, the price of platinum tends to be as much as twice the price of gold, whereas during periods of economic uncertainty, the price of platinum tends to decrease due to reduced industrial demand, falling below the price of gold. Gold prices are more stable in slow economic times, as gold is considered a safe haven and gold demand is not driven by industrial uses.

Gold is listed 5 times higher than a decade ago, but the share prices of gold miners are at historical lows. It is natural that gold miners take a drop in the gold price into account, but at the current levels they are taking into account a gold price of 600 USD or lower.

Gold prices could rally if there is a correction in the U.S. stock market, as U.S. equities are near record highs. Additionally, they point out a Swiss gold referendum on Nov. 30, which in part calls for Switzerland to hold at least 20% of its assets in gold, could support prices. “If passed, and currently very few are talking about it outside of Switzerland, the SNB (Swiss National Bank) would need to buy 1,500 (metric tons) over a three-year period. (Fifteen hundred tons) equates to half of the world's annual production,” they said.

Every recession over the past 50 years was preceded by the Fed hiking rates enough to invert the yield curve. That is seven out of seven times—a perfect forecasting track record. The yield curve inversion usually takes place about 12 months before the start of the recession, but the lead time ranges from about five to 16 months. The peak in the stock market comes around the time of the yield curve inversion, ahead of the recession and accompanying downturn in corporate profits.
When the yield curve becomes inverted, profit margins fall for companies that borrow cash at short-term rates and lend at long-term rates, such as community banks.
